New home? Register online.
Anyone who has moved into a new home must register as soon as possible. This also applies to changes of address within the city. According to the Federal Registration Act, you must register within 14 days of moving house. Deregistration at the previous place of residence is not required.
With electronic residence registration, the registration of your new residence is done digitally. You notify the authorities of your new place of residence via the online service and can also update your identity card or eID card. To use the online service, you need to set up a user account via the online ID function. The easiest way to use the online ID function is via smartphone. To do this, install the “AusweisApp”. Also have your 6-digit personal PIN ready.
The electronic residence registration:
The electronic residence registration is a nationwide service of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Home Affairs. In the current expansion stage, it is possible to change residence within a municipality and to register for the first time in all municipalities already connected. The first to be able to use the service are persons over 18 years of age, unmarried, without minor children.
After you have logged in with your user account, you can start the online service. You will receive information on data protection and the online service directs you to the ID Card App "AusweisApp". Once you have identified yourself, you will be shown the data that has been stored about you in the civil register for verification purposes. You then have the option of making settings for the transfer of your registration data. You then enter the address of your new flat and when you moved into your new flat. If you are renting, for example, you will also need information about your landlord. In this case, please also upload your landlord's confirmation. Before you finally send your application to the competent registration office, you can check your registration data again. A summary of your data is available for download in the online service. Your data will be checked and processed at the competent registration office. As soon as this has been done, you will automatically receive an e-mail message.
Call up the service again, authenticate yourself. Now you can complete your residence registration. A forgery-proof digital registration confirmation with an electronic seal is available in the online service. To update your address data on the ID card, the online service will redirect you to the AusweisApp and update the address data stored on the chip of the ID card. After completing the online service, the new address stickers will be sent to you automatically by post from Bundesdruckerei. These are provided with a special security code.
